The Music City Foster Project

For many animals in overcrowded shelters, a foster home is not just a softer place to land. It may be their only chance. Some animals are too young, too scared, too stressed, recovering from illness or surgery, or simply out of time in a crowded shelter environment. Because Music City Animal Rescue is a foster-home-based rescue, we can only bring an animal into our program when we have a foster home ready to say yes.

That is why The Music City Foster Project exists.

Fostering gives cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, and other small animals a safe place to decompress, heal, grow, and prepare for adoption. Research has shown that foster care can make a measurable difference. One review found that more than 98% of fostered dogs experienced a live outcome, with almost that same percentage adopted. Studies of short-term foster programs have also shown that time in a foster home can reduce shelter dogs’ stress, including measurable decreases in cortisol, a hormone associated with stress.

Foster homes save lives by opening the door for animals who otherwise may never get that chance.

When you foster with Music City Animal Rescue, we provide the necessities. Food, vetting, and supplies are provided by the rescue. You provide the shelter, patience, safety, and love that help an animal feel secure while they wait for their forever home.

There are many ways to foster, and every foster home matters.

You can foster:

*Puppies or kittens who need a safe place to grow until they are    ready for adoption.

*Adult dogs or cats who need a calm home environment where their personalities can shine.

*Senior pets who deserve comfort, dignity, and gentle care.

*Animals with special needs who may need extra support, medication, recovery time, or a quieter space.

*Temporary transition fosters for 1–2 weeks when an animal first enters rescue, needs a short-term safe place, or is recovering from illness or surgery.

Fostering is not a lifetime commitment. It is a commitment to save a life.

Every foster home allows Music City Animal Rescue to move one more animal out of danger and into safety. It gives us the ability to say “yes” when a shelter is full, when an animal is struggling in a stressful kennel, or when a vulnerable pet urgently needs help.
